Talking Turkey

Tim was guest speaker at the NFU North East Region Autumn Turkey Marketing Meeting on the 28th September. He talked about all aspects of our business from inception to the present day. In true Tim style he also gave his audience a few laughs by regaling some of the funny experiences we have encountered on the way. A sense of humour is an essential ingredient in this job.

Goose Producers Farm Walk

Poultrymans Holiday

October has been a busy and eventful month. The 14th October saw us just outside Worchester at the annual Goose Producers farm walk and meeting. The weather was kind, and the day was enjoyable and informative. During the meeting we were ‘asked’ to become members of the Goose Producers council, which we were proud to accept, even though it will mean trips to the ‘BIG’ city for meetings. Cities, especially big ones are not Tim’s favourite places.

Country Side Live Event

The proof is in the taste

Cooked samples of our turkeys and geese went down very well at the Country Side Live Event, held at the Harrogate Show Ground on the weekend of 23rd and 24th October. Although this proved to be a very hectic few days, the very positive comments we received confirmed what our customers have been telling us for years, our turkeys are fantastic

Photogenic bird

Monday 25th October we were delighted to receive a visit from Annie Stirk in her capacity as Food and Wine Consultant for Yorkshire Life Magazine. Annie is cooking and preparing food to create a sumptuous Christmas table, using food from local producers. This will be photographed and form a double page spread in the December addition of the magazine. We were delighted when she asked to use one of our turkeys as the centre piece.

Fame at last ?

Tues 26th October saw us and our turkeys and geese being filmed for the Regional Food Group. The group which champions food from Yorkshire is compiling a series of short films showcasing their members. We were delighted to be asked to take part, but confess we are waiting nervously to view the results !!!

Local Primary School Visit: school

Local Primary School Visit

Some of the pupils from Thornhill Junior and Infants came to visit us

Today proved to be a really enjoyable day on the farm. Some of the pupils from our local primary school – Thornhill Junior and Infants came to visit us, as part of their local food project – 'Fight for the Future'.

They spent their time looking at and finding out about the crops we grow and our methods of turkey and goose production. The geese and very young turkeys proved very popular, as did the tractors. During their visit the pupils showed great delight, interest and were very well behaved. We hope to forge further links in the future.

Tim on TV... well, almost!

Posted 13/09/2010

Tim was asked to lend a hand on Gordon Ramseys television program 'the F Word'.

Tim was asked to Janet Street-Porters farm near Pately Bridge in the Yorkshire Dales, by the producers of Gordon Ramsey’s television program the F Word. He was asked to 'process' the chickens Janet had reared, so they could be cooked on the program.

Unfortunately the sequence was not shown due to lack of time, but every one concerned had a great day. Producer Dan Sinclair wrote to Tim saying ‘I’d like you to know that we really appreciated all the effort you made to make the day happen and for it to be such an enjoyable shoot all round.’

Held at Huddersfield's Galpharm Satdium, a very productive and enjoyable day.

We attended the Meet the Buyer event at the Galpharm Stadium, Huddersfield and had a very productive and enjoyable day. Meeting other producers, with the same passion and commitment to producing the finest quality local food was a pleasure, a big thank you to the Mayor Cllr. Julie Stewart Turner and her staff who organised the event.
